David

David was a Canadian pop/psychedelic band active in the 1960s, originally formed in Collingwood, Ontario, under the name The Marcatos in 1963. Group members included Francis Webster (vocals, guitar, bass, chimes), John Webster (vocals, guitar, trumpet), Tony Lecaillon (drums, percussion), Cliff Snyder (trombone, piano, organ), Bill Szekeres (vocals, bass), Deborah Kelly (vocals) and Ted Grimes (vocals, trumpet, piano, electric piano). The band relocated to Toronto in 1966, expanding their sound and reputation. By 1968, they had rebranded themselves simply as David. Their lone LP, released in 1969 on the newly formed Sound Canada label, showcased a mix of upbeat pop “Never Been In Love”, more experimental tones “Descension”, and a psychedelic take on “House Of The Rising Sun”. Although they built local buzz and enjoyed some radio play in Canada, the group disbanded soon after, unable to sustain their momentum amid internal challenges. Though short‑lived, David remains a footnote in Canadian 1960s rock history, remembered for their ambition during a dynamic era of musical growth.
