Top 10 Songs ranks the top songs of the week and year 50 years ago, beginning in 1969. Artists that sing (pop, rock, hip-hop, etc.), play instruments, and write their own songs - these are generally the greatest songs when compared against artists who only sing a song. However, production, engineering, arrangement, and improvisation are also key. With the birth of psychedelic music in the mid 1960s, a new world of recording techniques emerged that brought even greater power to beautiful songs. Unfortunately, commercial infiltration into awards ceremonies sometimes removed these important criteria from their rankings and awards. We’ve removed commercial biases and celebrate great songs by bringing them here. Charts have been compiled using global data since 2004. All songs are hand picked by humans. We’re not changing popular music history; we’re bringing it to you.
